History of White Star Machinery
Founded by Albert C. Rynders to construct and equip grain elevators along the railroads in western Kansas. White Star was located in Wichita at 145 N. Emporia and then moved to 209-213 N. St. Francis in 1915.
New elevators were rare in the dust bowl 30’s, but Rynders survived by selling elevator parts and supplies. He sold the business to Omaha interests and retired in 1942.
Russ Clark, a wire rope sales engineer, came to White Star as General Manager and two years later purchased the company. He continued the transition to industrial tools and supplies, and added construction equipment.
White Star moved to the corner of 301 N. St. Francis, and in 1959 moved to 720 E. 10th Street.
Clark fell on ill health and sold the company to the Berry family. White Star became a division of Berry Companies Inc. The company specialized in construction equipment and supplies, including cranes, loaders, excavators, concrete and compaction equipment.
White Star became one of the first distributors of the Melroe Bobcat skid-steer loader. White Star continues to distribute the loaders, excavators and attachments today.
The first White Star branch was opened in Topeka at 600 W. Gordon. It moved to 430 W. 1st in 1969.
White Star opened in Tulsa, at 3900 S Memorial, primarily for the sale of Bobcat loaders. They moved to 428 S. 122 E. Ave. in 1973, and then in 1994 to the current location at 5401 S. Mingo Rd.
White Star acquired King and East Machinery Co. in Denver and entered the Colorado market. That business has grown and is now a separate division of Berry Companies known as Bobcat of the Rockies, with 8 locations.
A new facility headquarters was built in Wichita at 3223 N Hydraulic Ave. White Star started sharing a facility with Berry Tractor and Co., in Garden City, at 3030 W. Jones. (1994).
John Engels was named President of White Star. Sunflower Supply located at 1831 Southwest Boulevard in Wichita was acquired and became a division of White Star. They moved to 1815 Southwest Blvd in 1984 and to 818 W. Douglas in 1988.
White Star acquired R & K Supply Co. in Topeka and consolidated Topeka operations at 121 NE Gordon.
Completes 90 years in business, having survived two world wars, the great depression and the many business cycles of the 20th Century.
White Star acquired Construction Equipment Sales & Service and created the White Star Machinery branch in Manhattan.

What We Can Do For You
I am beyond satisfied with our experience with Whitestar! Few months back we contacted them about getting financed for a new MT100 unfortunately at the time we didn’t get matched up with something that was within the monthly budget. The sales team never gave me the impression that I was a waste of their time and rather gave us advice to get qualified. 3 months later we came back and they got us in exactly what we needed with an interest rate lower than 4%. Not only that but everyone one in that building were beyond polite, happy and just super helpful with questions about the machine. Thanks Jim and Ben!

I have bought 2 machines from them, any time I’ve had any trouble they are there within 30 minutes. Everyone up there is always nice and easy to work with. Will be back for more machinery in the future!

I was in the market for a mini skid-steer and White Star did great! Mike got me in a MT100 and was very quick to get one sold to me. The rental guys Andrew and Pete worked closely with the rest of the team to make the process as smooth as possible. I would recommend them to anyone looking for equipment.

We had the best experience using White Star. They were very helpful in advising what would be best for us to rent for what we were doing. They were super friendly and easy to work with. We’ve rented from them twice and used Ric both times. He’s awesome! Always available to answer our calls or texts and bent over backwards to help us both times! Definitely better than using Home Depot or other rental places. Will use them again and would highly recommend!

The service manager here in Topeka (Brad) and manager from Wichita (Glenn) both went above and beyond to help me when I had an issue with a new compact tractor. They handled themselves in a professional manner and I would recommend anyone looking for a compact tractor, look at bobcat! These guys helped me on their Weekend time off, vacation days, etc, that kind of service is hard to find these days!

I operate a full service heavy equipment shop and parts store. We use White Star as one of our trusted tractor parts suppliers. I went to White Star to order parts for a diesel engine I am overhauling. Their parts guy was gone on vacation and Chris Berry was filling in for him. Despite the phones making Chris way too busy, he found my engine immediately, took my list of parts I provided, and ordered the entire list. He invoiced everything, gave me the parts he had in stock, and got me on my way, all in just a few minutes. He knew what I needed as I explained my overhaul and even made suggestions for parts that I might also need. He is very professional and knows his stuff. The rest of the staff was helpful and were obviously doing their part to keep Chris sane during a really busy morning. I also stopped in the office to take care of resale tax paperwork while I was there and was met with kind and very helpful people. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience with the kind of people I wish I could find for my business. Five plus stars for sure.
